THE COAST OF BAHIA

"Flying I am through the concourse of an era,

not yet knowing if the bright beacon will continue

to point the way, or fizzle at the entrance of the unknown"

(Lopez-Espina, 2019)

No one could dispute the global appeal of Rio de Janeiro's beaches, the surroundings are simply breathtaking. However, it may surprise many foreigners that the state of Bahia  is where most Brazilian tourists travel to during the summer, including many from Rio. The majority of those visitors gravitate toward the southern coastal region of the state where a great number of beaches  are deserted or sparsely habitated. Unlike the active waves of Rio, this area provides a diverse choice to select how peaceful, or active, you want the water to be.

The photographs below showcase the pristine beauty of this isolated habitat. As it is the case throughout the Brazilian coast, here too rivers flow into the Atlantic Ocean. These rivers help to sculpt the beaches and afford an additional attraction. Although I have separated the incredible sand design images into their own galleries, several photographs in this group will provide a clue as to how those patterns get formed.
