SAND PATTERNS - ONE

"And thereupon in nature,

we uncover the essence of it all"

(Lopez-Espina, 2019)

To capture the incredible sand designs below is more difficult than anyone thinks. Many variables have to work in unison. The morning tide has to be the lowest possible, which means those days near full and new moon. One also needs clear skies and images must be taken around 7 AM - 8:30 AM. Earlier than that, the light is too low to adequately illuminate the patterns, while later, the brightness is too harsh. Although the beaches are isolated and rather pristine, often after heavy rains, nearby rivers deposit debris on the sand. Problems also exist on windy days, as strong wave activity brings seaweed and other ocean born matter. And yes, when that perfect day finally comes, Gil prays for a family of twelve not to show and step over everything.

If I'm lucky, nature grants me around ten to twelve good days a year.  It isn’t unusual for two or three months to pass by without an opportunity. Living here full-time is virtually a necessity. Hope you enjoy the most unusual and spectacular sand patterns you’ll ever see in your life.
